I’ve learned that in Lee County, Florida, and possibly other counties across the state, school boards are working on their budgets for the 2026-2027 school year. Arts and music programs, both in specialized schools and general public schools, are facing cuts or could even be eliminated. I’ll share more updates as I get them, but it’s worth checking with your local school board to see what’s happening in your area and making your voice heard.
Back with more information!
Edison Park School in Lee County is facing a $700,000 budget cut. This is an Art/Music
school. Parents and students had a peaceful protest April 30th. News media in Lee County has been covering but I can not seem to post a link of articles on this site. I have a list of names and emails of Board Members if you are interested in making a comment.
From WGCU Media
“The cuts at Edison Park and other Lee County schools are part of a systemic challenge: declining enrollment in some areas, rising costs, and a state budget that hasn’t yet been passed, forcing the district to make difficult trade-offs. Families and community members are demanding more transparency and assurance that core programs — especially arts and special education — will be preserved”
